Gruau unveils its first A2 ambulance and innovations designed to support professionals

Press Release - Products

Gruau Ambulances will take part in the 7th National Convention for Ambulances and Medical Transport Mobility, to be held on September 24 and 25, 2026. With a stand designed around a welcoming atmosphere, the company will unveil its latest innovations, developed to meet the day-to-day constraints faced by medical transport professionals.

As a benchmark player in medical and rescue vehicles, the Laval-based group will present its solutions in a context that is particularly demanding for the profession. Regulatory changes, rising diesel prices, the need to control operating costs: the challenges facing ambulance operators are numerous. To help them address these issues, Gruau Ambulances will showcase practical solutions that are immediately operational.

An A2 offer already available to anticipate the new regulations

The decree of April 20, 2026 updates the regulations governing ground medical transport by allowing the simultaneous transport of several stable patients. To anticipate this change, applicable from April 2028, the manufacturer-bodybuilder is already offering a Renault Trafic L2 Type A2 adapted to the new regulatory framework. Gruau Ambulances draws here on the Group’s experience by upgrading an existing solution in its catalogue, demonstrating its ability to respond quickly to the profession’s new expectations.

With optimized use of the interior space, this vehicle can accommodate up to three patients in the best conditions of comfort and safety: one lying down on a stretcher and the other two seated. This new patient compartment is also available on a Mercedes Vito base. To further expand its offer, Gruau is also working in parallel on the development of A2 ambulances on larger-volume vans, such as the Renault Master.

Innovation in the service of health safety and efficiency

Adapting to professionals’ expectations requires the ability to innovate in step with the changing nature of their needs. The Renault Master displayed on the Gruau stand will feature two systems designed to make ambulance crews’ day-to-day work easier:

Gruau Energycare

Developed by the Group after observing firefighter interventions and then validated in the field, Gruau Energycare is now offered to medical transport professionals.
Each time the vehicle is stationary, the system automatically switches off the internal combustion engine. An auxiliary battery, providing up to 25 minutes of autonomy, then takes over to power the light signalling and the patient compartment equipment. When its charge level becomes insufficient, the engine restarts automatically to recharge it.

By limiting prolonged engine idling, Gruau Energycare helps reduce fuel consumption, pollutant emissions, noise pollution and mechanical wear. Professionals can already contact the Gruau Ambulances teams to estimate the savings achievable based on their usage.

Gruau Aircare

Patient safety, as well as the safety of healthcare professionals, is among Gruau Ambulances’ priorities. Complementing patient compartments designed for easy maintenance, Gruau Aircare ensures continuous renewal and filtration of the cabin air.
Its HEPA filter captures fine particles, allergens, as well as viruses and bacteria. An activated-carbon system also helps neutralize unpleasant odours. Gruau Aircare therefore helps maintain healthy air in the patient compartment, for the well-being of occupants.

Mindful of the challenges faced by medical transport professionals, Gruau Ambulances offers vehicles and services designed to enable them to focus fully on their mission. Alongside the Renault Trafic L2 Type A2 and the Renault Master equipped with the Energycare and Aircare systems, a PRM conversion will also be displayed. Gruau Ambulances is also expanding its range by developing a VSL (light medical vehicle) offer. These new developments illustrate the historic expertise and commitment of the family-owned company to mobility for all.

The last vehicle on display will not be a new product as such, but it should arouse curiosity: a Citroën Type H converted into a mobile bar will welcome visitors in a friendly atmosphere. One more reason to stop by the Gruau Ambulances stand.
